From its studios in the Hotel Statler, WBEN-TV Channel 4 made local television history on December 6, 1954 with Buffalo's first telecast of a "live" color program. Here Santa Claus, played by Bill Peters, reads a message from a young admirer while his elves, Forgetful (Johnny Eisenberger) and Grumbles (Gene Brooks), kibitz. The station had been telecasting network color programming regular since March of 1954.
