The Buffalo Gas Works.
This image shows a World War 1 Bond Rally on West Genesee Street in front of the Buffalo Gas Works - 1917. At the far left of the image is one of several bridges that crossed the Erie Canal -- though by the early 1900s, the Canal was nothing but an open cess pool.

The Gas Works was the center for Natural Gas manufacturing and distribution in the city. The gas was used primarily for the lighting of homes and businesses.

The main building and the rectangular building to the right in this photograph still stand today and are both owned by National Fuel.
