The middle of the Christmas shopping season was a busy time for every Downtown Buffalo merchant. Yes, before there was such a thing as large shopping malls, people did their Christmas shopping at A.M. & A's, Hengerers, Bergers, Sattlers, Kleinhans, Woolworths, and of course, the Larkin Company.

This image shows the interior of Frank Lloyd Wright's Larkin Administration Building struggling to serve a useful purpose for the company. During its heyday the Light Court was filled with busy office workers, but when this photograph was taken in the 40s, the Light Court, as well as much of the Administration Building, was converted over to a retail store.
