There was once a time when the lake in Delaware Park, now known as Hoyt Lake, was quite the gathering spot in Buffalo no matter the season.
It is 1919, and the frozen lake is the scene for these skaters enjoying a Buffalo winter. The lake's boathouse can bee seen to the left and the New York State Building, left over from the Pan-American Exposition, can be seen in the background. To the learned observer, the building, now the home of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, looks a bit smaller than normal. This is due to the fact that the dual additions on both wings of the building have yet to be built. The photograph was taken from the porch of the Casino. |
