The Buffalo History Works' Photograph Collection

Here's a beautiful shot of Buffalo's German Insurance Building located at the corner of Main and Broadway in Lafayette Square. Built in the 1870's, this six-story, victorian structure was laced with intricate iron details and was one of the first "high-rise" office buildings in Buffalo.

Due to racial tensions created by the first World War, the building was later renamed to the Buffalo Insurance Building and stood until 1957, when it was demolished for a more modern office complex.
